LA CLASE MÁGICA'S
DEVELOPMENTAL COMPONENTS

La Clase Mágica (LCM) accommodates 5 to 18 year old children. The curriculum, designed to promote children’s literacy and cognitive development, is facilitated through collaborative learning where play is used as a developmental framework. The children read, write, and play skill-building math and literacy computer games in collaboration with university undergraduates.

Mi Clase Mágica (MCM) serves 3 to 5 year old children. Adapted for preschool children, this program introduces participants to basic computer usage with the goal of supporting academic and social readiness. The program adapts the principles and cultural relevance of the La Clase Mágica curriculum to introduce participants to letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and other important skills.

Wizard Assistant Club targets 12 to 18 year olds who have been long-term participants of the program. As project “experts” Wizard Assistants assist with site operations, conduct orientations for undergraduates, and serve as ambassadors of the project at conferences, community meetings, and university courses.

La Gran Dimensión (LGD) trains adults to use technology as a tool for information, communication, and employment, while also encouraging them to use their new knowledge in the facilitation of La Clase Mágica sites. LGD focuses on fundamental typing skills, promotes basic software proficiency in programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and teaches Internet familiarity in order to help adults be better prepared for today’s job market.

IN DEVELOPMENT! Los Promotores is a parent involvement program that offers opportunities for parents to become involved in LCM activities ranging from short-term visits to the sites to more organized, long-term activities. Along with fostering a community among LCM parents, Los Promotores encourages and supports further involvement in their children’s educational development, such as providing information about the academic system through educational workshops.
